TEHRAN - Western hypocrisy is not just outrageous, but extremely dangerous and can lead to serious consequences, says Iran's Vice President for Strategic Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Zarif made the remarks after several Westen states censured Iran for retaliating against Israel's assassination of a number of high-ranking Resistance officials in the past two months, one of whom was killed on Iranian soil.

The retaliation involved firing about 200 ballistic missiles at the occupied territories on Tuesday night. 

"Iran has an inherent right of self-defense against repeated Israeli armed attacks against Iranian territory and its citizens," Zarif wrote on his X account after criticizing Washington and its European allies for aiding and abetting the "Israeli genocide" in Gaza.

"Israel and its allies alone are responsible for all consequences of Israel's persistent provocations and escalations," the official added.
